On Friday, an explosion occurred in a parking lot at the in East Los Angeles, killing three officers. The three officers were a part of the arson unit and explosives units. With three fatalities, the incident marks the most deaths in a single day in the history of the Los Angeles Police Department.
All fatalities in the incident were deputy officers, and were described as “fantastic experts” in their field. Aerial cameras from the affiliate news KABC-TV showed an explosion occurring in a parking lot sheriff’s vehicles and boxed trucks. The surrounding area was evacuated and fenced off as investigating authorities worked the scene.
US media sources indicated that the officers were in the process of handling an unexploded bomb during the incident. The LA bomb squad is located at Biscailuz.
The incident is still under investigation. Authorities said that there was no further threat to the public following the incident, which was described as “isolated.”, sstatement: “[I am] closely tracking the situation as we learn more about what occurred and the condition of those affected. My heart is heavy, and my thoughts are with the brave men and women of the Sheriff’s Department during this difficult time.”
