On August 21, members of the heavy metal music act Mastodon, in congruence with authorities, announced that the band’s former lead guitarist-vocalist Brent Hinds was killed in a vyclemotor crash in Atlanta, Georgia the following evening. He was 51.
The band said: “We are heartbroken, shocked and still trying to process the loss of this creative force with whom we’ve shared so many triumphs, milestones, and the creation of music that has touched the hearts of so many.”
He formed Mastodon in 2000 and departed the band in March of this year. The band said the split was mutual.
Mastodon is a six-time Grammy-winning band. Stylistically, the band “forged ferocious metal, progressive wizardry and sludge rock tendencies,” according to AP News.
