This Friday, the National Bureau of Investigation of the Philippines requested an Interpol Red Notice be issued against Zaldy Co.
Palmer Mallari, the NBI spokesperson, has reported that a red notice has been requested as early as November 23, when the Office of the Ombudsman ordered graft and malversation cases against Co and others from the MIMAROPA subsection of the Department of Public Works and Highways due to an anomalous flood control project in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro. The charges are pending in the Sandiganbayan.
An Interpol Red Notice is a request for international law enforcement to arrest a person seeking extradition, surrender, or other legal actions and is considered an “international warrant” by Rappler. If accepted, the Red Notice will contribute to Co’s arrest abroad.
On December 10, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. revoked Co’s passport, removing the latter’s basis to stay in another country and requested the Philippine National Police and the Department of Foreign Affairs to locate and arrest Co. He has been outside the Philippines since the opening of the 20th Congress in July. Recently, Co has released a series of videos accusing Marcos of inserting flood control projects in the 2025 budget.
The Department of Justice reported that it has yet to receive confirmation on whether Co was issued a Red Notice or not.
