At least two people were injured and one person lost their life after an explosion and subsequent fire caused three buildings to collapse in a neighborhood early Sunday morning. The incident occurred between 4:50 and 5:00 a.m. in the 1900 block of West Bristol Street, prompting an immediate response from fire and rescue teams following reports of a loud explosion and fire.

During search operations, the body of a woman was discovered in the debris, confirming one fatality.

Two elderly women sustained injuries—one is in critical condition, while the other is stable. Both have been hospitalized.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of those involved.

Impact and Emergency Response:

The blast and fire resulted in the collapse of three homes and caused significant damage to at least five additional properties. At least ten homes have been declared uninhabitable, and residents from around ten neighboring houses were evacuated to a nearby shelter.

Emergency crews, including the Philadelphia Fire Department and utility workers, responded swiftly to the scene. A collapse zone was established due to ongoing safety concerns, and search and rescue efforts are continuing.

The Philadelphia Fire Marshal and other city agencies are actively investigating the cause of the explosion.

Eyewitness Reports:

Residents described being jolted awake by a “big bang,” with homes shaking and doors blown open. The aftermath was chaotic, with emergency personnel working throughout the day to manage the situation.

The incident remains under active investigation, with authorities continuing rescue and recovery operations.
