The death toll from devastating floods in Texas rose to 59 on Sunday, including 21 children, according to law enforcement officials. The search continued for a group of girls missing from a summer camp, now in its third day.

Larry Leitha, Sheriff of Kerr County in the Texas Hill Country—the area hardest hit by the flooding—reported that 11 girls and a counselor were still unaccounted for. They had been at a camp near the Guadalupe River, which overflowed its banks after heavy rainfall struck central Texas on Friday, coinciding with the U.S. Independence Day holiday.

President Trump declared a major disaster Sunday morning in Kerr County, aligning with Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s initial visit to the summer camp. On social media, Abbott referred to the region as “horrendously ravaged.”
