On Sunday morning, October 19, 2025 around 11am, a crash involving a patrol car in Detroit resulted in three people, including a (MSP) trooper, being hospitalized. The freeway was temporarily closed for investigation and traffic control.
A MSP patrol car, a Jeep Cherokee, and a vehicle involved in the initial single-vehicle crash on the shoulder. According to Michigan State Police, a 55-year-old Detroit man driving a Jeep on wet pavement and slammed into the back of the trooper’s parked patrol car, causing it to lurch forward into the vehicle from the earlier crash.
Police said that the crash was largely caused by the driver’s excessive speed for wet road conditions and severely worn tires—three of the Jeep’s four tires were below the wear bars.
