On October 25, 2025, around 12:06 p.m. local time, the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to reports of shots fired at the Austin Central Library, located at 710 W. Cesar Chavez Street in downtown Austin, Texas. The incident occurred on an upper floor of the library, prompting a heavy police response, including SWAT teams, and an initial shelter-in-place order for the surrounding area. One person was shot and suffered serious but stable injuries (initial reports suggested a leg wound in a restroom on the second floor). The victim was transported to a local hospital; no fatalities were reported.

A male suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. He was described as a thin Black male wearing a gray hoodie, green shorts, black pants, black shoes, and carrying two black bags. He was apprehended in South Austin around 1:26–1:30 p.m. through coordination between on-scene officers and field units.
