The United Nations Security Council convened on Wednesday in New York for its annual open debate on women, peace, and security, marking 25 years since the landmark Security Council Resolution 1325. The latest report from the UN Secretary-General highlighted a significant underrepresentation of women in peace processes. In 2024, women constituted only an average of seven percent of negotiators globally, and nearly nine out of every ten peace negotiation processes included no female negotiators.
