UN Peacekeeper Killed in Lebanon Attack, UN Chief Condemns Violence

A UN peacekeeper, identified as Sergeant Milovan Jovanivić, was killed in a new attack in Lebanon, prompting condemnation from UN Secretary-General António Guterres. UNESCO Grants ‘Enhanced Protection’ to 39 Middle Eastern Cultural Heritage Sites

UNESCO has placed 39 World Heritage sites in Lebanon under “enhanced protection” to safeguard them from the impacts of conflict, as requested by the Lebanese government. This highest level of international legal protection, under the 1954 Hague Convention, offers immunity from military attack and aims to preserve the living heritage of communities.
